PKK
Project Khon Kaen
Project Khon Kaen is an annual project organised by the Singapore Medical Society London. Each year 10-20 medical students, doctors and healthcare workers/students depart on an expedition to Khon Kaen, Northeast Thailand, on a community project and cultural exchange. 2009 will be it’s 7th year running.
PKK 2009 consists of a follow-up programme from 2008 in Hin Khao village, as well as a new programme in the slum community in Khon Kaen city. Our focus this year will be on the investigation and treatment of liver fluke infections, which are endemic in that area. We will also be carrying out follow-up programmes aimed at education on diabetes and hypertension, which have a relatively high prevalence in that area.
We are fortunate to be able to collaborate with National Healthcare Group, Singhealth and Raffles Medical Group’s Asian Medical Foundation from Singapore, as well as Khon Kaen University and Gerald Khoo World Harvest Foundation in Thailand, among other organisations.
We hope you’d be able to be part of our expedition, which will be held from end July to early August. The application forms are available for download, which should be completed and sent to project.khonkaen@gmail.com by 20Mar09. For more information, please do not hesitate to contact us at the above email address and we will get back to you as soon as possible.
